Frequently Asked Questions

1.  What is Intrepid Crossing?

Intrepid Crossing [IRC] is a PvP alliance based in the Etherium Reach region of 0.0 space.  We have sovereignty level 4 in our home system of D-IZT9.  We have 6 outposts that we have either deployed or conquered.  We have recently expanded our territory to include part of the Oasa region as well.  We are one of the largest alliances in-game in terms of the number of members, and we have players in virtually all timezones.

2.  How does Progenitor Corporation fit into IRC?

Progenitor Corporation [PRCP] is the Empire-based recruiting and training arm of AWE Corporation, the executor corp for IRC.  We take in pilots of all SP levels.  New pilots are given the chance to learn basic fleet operations, train needed skills, gain experience in PvP through roaming gangs and other corp-sponsored operations, and save the start-up capital needed before moving down to our home in 0.0 space.  Experienced pilots also make a brief stay in PRCP; this gives us the chance to evaluate their suitability for life in IRC, and also lets them check us out to make sure we are a good match for the pilot's interests.  By doing this before the pilots move all of their assets to 0.0 space, it saves logistical headaches should it turn out we are not a good match for one another.

3.  What PvP training opportunities are available?

During your stay in PRCP, there are many different types of PvP opportunities that may come your way.  We have a corporate account with Agony Unleashed / EVE University which allows our members to attend their small-ship PvP classes at no out-of-pocket expense to the pilot.  We often run roaming gangs into 0.0 space, sometimes patrolling our supply lines, but often into the heart of enemy territory.  We are frequently called upon to assist IRC's main fleet in either home defense or in gate-camping while the capital fleet wreaks destruction upon an enemy system or fleet.  In short, all aspects of PvP in EVE lay before you, and you will be taught by experienced fleet commanders to give you a feel for all that EVE has to offer.

4.  Are there mandatory operations in PRCP?  What about in 0.0?

There are "mandatory" operations in both PRCP and in 0.0 for IRC.

In PRCP, we run a weekly pro-bono operation.  During the pro-bono day, all proceeds go to the corp.  This means that if you mine, all ores get donated to the corp.  If you run missions, the tax rate gets set to 100%, so all of your bounties and the mission completion reward go to the corp automatically (your time bonus is yours to keep however).  In addition, the loot and/or salvage that you collect also goes to the corp.  Why, you might ask?  These donated proceeds go to help out the alliance in general, or PRCP specifically.  PRCP makes Tech I modules available to members at no charge (subject to availability), which really helps out new pilots.  Also, PRCP periodically ships loads of modules down to 0.0 so they can be made available at no charge to pilots down there.  The minerals are used to build Tech I ships which corp members can purchase; the price for these ships are typically lower than the prevailing market price.  In addition, PRCP leaders may occasionally issue a Call to Arms (CTA) for various reasons.

When you get to 0.0, there are even more "mandatory" operations.  There is still a weekly pro-bono mining operation.  There will also be times when High Command issues a CTA; these may include home defense operations or offensive operations deemed critical to the alliance.  During these operations, it is expected that all available pilots will participate.

The reason that the word mandatory is in quotes is because we realize that real life is more important than EVE.  We do not expect people to call in sick to work, miss an anniversary dinner, or stay up all night long for an operation, even a "mandatory" one.  When we say an operation is mandatory, that means that if you are going to be in-game anyway, you are expected to fleet up and help with the mission.  In IRC, no one ducks a fight.

5.  What if I can't afford to lose my battleship but the operation is calling for ships with high DPS (Damage per Second)?

You will never be pressured to bring an expensive ship if you can't afford to replace it.  In fact, you will often hear us say, "Only fly what you can afford to lose!"  If an operation is calling for high DPS ships, but you can't comfortably afford to replace your battleship, bring a cruiser, or perhaps an electronic warfare ship (even a frigate).  If you have questions about appropriate ships to bring, ask a staff member for advice.  Always remember to insure your ships for the maximum value before taking it out for PvP, as that will help alleviate the cost of replacing it if you do lose it.

6.  Do you use any programs for voice communication?

We use Ventrilo (Vent) for all voice communications.  You will be expected to be on Vent any time you are in game.  Even if you do not have a microphone, it is still important that you be able to hear warnings and questions, even if you have to type your responses.

7.  What types of NPC rats are found in your space in 0.0?

We are in the drone regions East of Empire.  This can be seen as good or bad, depending on your perspective.  The bad part is that there are no bounties on rats, so to make money ratting, you need to grab the alloys that the drones drop.  However, the battleship rats drop plenty of high-end alloys and compounds.   Just drag them to an anchored giant secure container, player owned station, or outpost, then warp to the next belt.  The corp buys all alloys, so that is the only additional step.  The good part about being in the drone regions is that whether people rat or mine, it all provides minerals to the corp, which allows the corp to build lots of ships and ammo.  All told, it is still easy to make a substantial amount of isk/hour ratting.

8.  Are there any IRC policies in 0.0 that I should be aware of?

  • There will be absolutely no smack-talk in Local.  Let your actions speak for you.
  • Alliance members are prohibited from posting in the Corporations, Alliance, and Organization Discussion (CAOD) forum within the EVE-Online forums.
  • In the event of a CTA or home defense operation, everyone is expected to fight.
  • Within our space, we operate a "Not Blue, Shoot It" (NBSI) policy.
  • All ores mined and all alloys collected from ratting must be sold to the corp via the contract system.
  • There will be no personal Player Owned Stations (POSs) in 0.0; if you use an alt to place one in Empire, do not expect IRC to defend it or contribute resources to it.
  • IRC does not have a ship replacement program; only fly what you can afford to lose.  Most Tech I ships are available from the alliance at reduced prices, and always make sure that you have paid for insurance.
  • Everyone must be on Ventrilo when online, even if you cannot talk in it for whatever reason; hearing instructions and warnings is critical.

9.  Which alliances are red to IRC and which are blue?

The nature of politics in 0.0 is very fluid and can change rapidly.   While everything is subject to change, our sister alliance is Ethereal Dawn [ED], with whom we share Etherium Reach, and we are friendly to xXDeathXx [X.I.X], Solar Wing [SOL-W], Solar Fleet [SOLAR], Imperial Republic of the North [IRON], Red Alliance [RA], and the Goonswarm [OHGOD].   We are red to Band of Brothers [BoB], Pure, and Mostly Harmless.
